Laparoscopic Surgery

The Reasons to Go for Laparascopic Surgery

  • Minimally invasive: Just small incisions are made leaving less pain and requiring recovery to be faster.
  • Faster healing: By using the surgical procedure, the majority of the patients enter into the normal daily process quickly compared with the conventional open surgery.
  • Less probability of infection: There is less likelihood of risk of infection because the incisions will be shallow.
  • Aesthetic: Smaller scars which in many cases are not as apparent as those that result after open surgery.
  • Same-day discharge: Most of the procedures can be performed on a day-care basis which implies that you will be able to go home on the same day.

Step 1- Consultation and Exam

Step 2: Pre- Operative Preparation

As soon as you and your surgeon decide what becomes the most effective course of action, you will be provided with the guidelines as to how to prepare yourself to a surgical intervention.

  • Fasting: Before your procedure you may be asked not to eat or drink a few hours before the test.
  • Pre-tests: A day before the surgery, in case of procedure and health conditions, they may require blood tests, an electrocardiogram or similar.
  • Medications: Your surgeon will evaluate your type of medication that you may possibly take to avoid clashes with anesthesia or surgery.

Step 3: The Procedure

On the day of your surgery, you will be admitted to the clinic where you will meet your anesthesiologist and surgical team. The procedure will be performed under general anesthesia, so you will be asleep throughout the surgery. During the surgery:

  • Small incisions are made (usually 1-2 cm).

  • A camera (laparoscope) is inserted to guide the surgeon’s movements.

  • Specialized instruments are used to perform the surgery through the small incisions.

  • The entire procedure is minimally invasive and done with great precision.

Step 4: Recovery After an Operation

Step 5: Follow up Care
